Wow! I have been reading the newspapers these last 4 days and all they talk about is about the famous cartoons published in the danish Jyllans Posten and the reaction in the "muslim world".
I consider my self very respectful to different cultures, basically coz I am respectful to different people, and well I think I have a pretty multicultural group of friends. So yeah, I think my self the cartoons themself were basically disrespectful, irresponsible and bad... like poor in quality I mean. If you haven't seen them, well the few I saw are pathetic provocations, and I can see a xenofobic point behind them (remember it was publish in a right wing newspaper as long as I know).
But, if I may say more... watching the reaction of the muslim countries, well is even more pathetic. Complaining about a cartoon that is portraying muslims as uncivilized and terrorist by burning embassys and rioting in front of them... isn't it just like supporting the cartoons?
Evenmore what I consider more sad is how far they have managed in islamic countries to control people through religion. Simply astonishing! Sure, Spain was not much different from Iran 50 years ago, with our crazy official religion banning whatever they though sinful! But hey... people back then hated so many bans, they wanted freedom (or I wanna think that!). I was just looking at http://www.muslimwakeup.com/ and well... they pretty much defend my same point of view!
I just hope the moderate muslims will raise their voices more and fight back those radical ones. Occident should stop messing with the muslim world for their petrol... we shouldnt need the petrol anymore, and help the moderate muslims take over control of their countries.
Summarizing... the stupid fight of a dumb-ass provoking a jerk full of hate!
